My collaborative exhibition travels to a new venue for another month (see previous blog
August 2024). Bedford House Community Association in Buckhurst Hill is an adult-
education centre running over 45 classes a week (I wish there was something similar in
Barnet). There is a large hanging space where students, members and visitors can see our
artwork, as well as murals from the 1950s and other artwork on display.
I teach a calligraphy class at Bedford House, so we are delighted to exhibit in a venue that is
positive about showcasing tutors’ work. Finding exhibition space for your own artwork in
London can be expensive and stressful, negotiating hire costs, fees, stewarding, sales and
commissions by yourself. One of the brilliant things about Guild Membership is the chance
to exhibit as part of a group at venues like the Open Door Café, the Reel cinema foyer and
Wesley Hall, and learn about what is involved. It is also a chance to talk to other Guild
members about exhibition spaces they may have found or used (such as Barnet Library).
My writing partner has arranged another venue for us in March, at an independent bookshop
in Worcester. We look forward to showing and telling a bit more!
